These dramatic pictures, taken in July and November 1997, clearly show the
smoke emanating from the smokestacks of the Navajo Generating Station in
northeast Arizona. When this smoke leaves the power plant, it directly
enters the Grand Canyon and obscures canyon visibility. The contrast between
the sky upwind of the power plant and downwind is obvious.
