Re: Your Unethical and Shameful Vote

Dear Senator Jon Kyl:

As of today, over 68,000 citizens have sent comments to the EPA and to their state legislators that they firmly believe testing pesticides on vulnerable populations is not ethical or acceptable. This past summer, Senator Boxer, Snow and others passed a bipartisan amendment to categorically prohibit intentional dosing of pregnant women and children. Despite your opposition, the amendment passed by a resounding 60 - 37 vote.

However, EPA subsequently proposed a rule that directly rebukes the Congressional mandate, and which allows orphans, neglected, abused, and severely handicapped children to be used as test subjects in pesticide studies. Your vote in opposition to the Boxer amendment has lead us to this place where exceptions are permissible that include our most vulnerable populations. EPA's proposed rule on human testing and your record on this issue are shameful.

As citizens of this state, we are personally delivering this letter to you, Senator Kyl.

Sincerely,

Stephen M. Brittle
